9 McCusker's Cottage

The McCusker cottage is ideal for larger families looking to vacation on Tybee Island. This well suite home sleeps 16 people. Located 200 yards from Tybee's North beach area. Direct access to the beach with no main streets to cross.

This home was built in 1895 and is listed in the National Historic Register. Officers in the US Army were stationed here during World Wars I and II. The first floor features one bedroom, which is located just off the kitchen, and two full baths. There is a queen size bed in this bedroom, a separate air conditioner, and a private bath with a claw foot tub. Another full bath with a shower is near the den. The kitchen, living room, dining room, and den are on this level as well and all have original heart pine hardwood flooring. The beautifully remodeled full kitchen has granite countertops, high end appliances, and a CD player. There is seating for up to 14 people at the dining room table. There is a Flat Screened TV and a DVD in the den. A marvelous open porch graces three sides of this home with approximately 1500 square feet of outdoor living area.

There are three bedrooms and three full baths on the second floor, which also has about 1500 square feet of open porches. Each of the bedrooms on the second floor are abundantly sized, have tall celings, and transoms above the doors. The first bedroom on this level has a queen size bed; the second bedroom has a king size bed and a private bath with a claw foot tub; and the third bedroom has a king size bed with another private bath. The third full bath on this floor is at the end of the hall. Bedrooms number five and six are on the third floor with another full bath. There are two doubles and one twin in the fifth bedroom and one queen and one full in the sixth. All bedrooms, as well as the kitchen, living room, and downstairs hallway, have ceiling fans. This stately home is for the exclusive use of the guests. Parties and events such as weddings and graduation parties are not permitted.

This vintage cottage has a ground level, open living/dining area with paneled walls and wood floors. The dining area seats six. The galley type kitchen is fully equipped. There is a full bathroom on this level, along with another full bath which is accessed from the open back porch. Sit in the Adirondack chairs on the back porch with a cup of coffee and then walk straight over the dunes to the beach.

The focal point of this cottage is a large, upper level, L-shaped porch with a panoramic view of the Inlet Waterway and Atlantic Ocean. 14 steps will take you to this oasis which has a sofa, wicker seating and a table for six. Think sunset views and cool drinks. There are four bedrooms on this level. The master bedroom has a king bed with a private bath. Another king bedroom and two other bedrooms, each with twin beds, have access to the fourth full bath.

In the latest edition of The Lettered Cottage Magazine, Jane and 99 Steps are featured by Kevin and Layla Palmer. The article is well composed in intricate detail, and visually appealing to cottage lovers alike. Here are a few excerpts from the article:

"Funky Junk: Jane has restored over 30 cottages on Tybee Island, and 10 on the Isle of Hope in Savannah. Each one is dotted with an amazing array of upcycled second hand finds. Conch shells have become shower heads, water cans have turned into table lamps. Jane's definitely got a way with stuff! Here in the living room at 99 Steps she suspended the original air vents from the pitched ceiling to honor the homes past, and to act as three dimensional art. Shutter to think: The sea-inspired shutters that adorn the outside of the cottage are available in any of Jane's custom paint colors at Jane's "Cottage Collections" shop at JaneCoslick.MyShopify.com."

"Named after the number of steps between it's front door and the edge of the sea, 99 Steps now boast beautiful planked walls, pocket windows, exposed rafters and refinished hardwood floors. Jane slipcovered inexpensive peices of furniture with hard-wearing blue and white-striped upholstery fabric by Waverly. She says, Its been great, and I don't ever think I will change it."

"Built in the 1920's by the Army Corps of Engineers, Jane says, "The house had an incredible energy." She just hung out the first couple of months she owned the place, but come spring, Jane began stripping the cottage down to it's original bones, ripping out ceiling tiles, and adding beach cottage charm galore."

All of our Friends of the Tybee Post theatre will be throwing the annual Tybee Wine Festival from April 15th through 17th. Annually, we are a proud sponsor of this event that keeps Tybee flowing with creativity. The event showcases the local flavor and "Taste" of Tybee Island. The itinerary begins with a "Grand Tasting," which surveys tasty beverages from internationally imported wines to the finest micro brewed hops. The Second night entails oysters and wine at Marlin Monroe's. Finally, the event will be capped with a Sunday brunch at the Champagne at the Chapel event. The Splash Shack Cottage, also referred to in Coast: Lifestyle Architecture as the "Chic Beach Shack", is a charming fun place to be with an airy atmosphere.
